Dr. Smouse was born and raised in the Pennsylvania farm land of Bedford County. In this area, all college bound students attended Penn State and he graduated in 1965 with a major in mathematics and a minor in chemistry. Dental school applicants require a certain qualifying educational background that he was able to complete with the night school program offered at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Graduating from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1972, he served as a General Dentist in the United States Air Force thru 1975; then he received his graduate training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital.

      Dr. Smouse has practiced Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the Atlanta area since 1978 and is the founding member of Atlanta Oral & Facial Surgery. Currently, he has limited his practice to the Lilburn and Lake Hearn offices and enjoys the flexibility and freedom that a large group can offer. He is a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, The American Dental Association, and the affiliate Georgia associations; his main interest is the development and service that Atlanta Oral & Facial Surgery can offer the medical and dental community.
