Dr. Schaner is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His education background began at the Mercersburg Academy where he met his future wife, Julie Gilmer Schaner. Denison University in Ohio is where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, as well as achieving four-year All-American status as a swimmer. The University of Pittsburgh provided his dental education. Following his dental degree, he completed a general practice residency in hospital dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

      His formal surgical training was completed at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. Most recently, he has completed a cosmetic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Baptist Hospital in Mississippi with Dr. John Griffin. His surgical interests include aesthetic surgery, reconstructive and orthognathic surgery, as well as implant reconstruction and trauma surgery.

      Social and recreational interests include golf in any shape or form.
